I'm taking this class because I have an interest in the subject of humanities, and wanted to learn more. I hope to learn more about other people and cultures, because I feel it's necessary to learn about those you share the world with.

4. What do you think of when you think "California"? Does this differ from what non-Californians think and if so, how?
When I think of California, I think of the gold rush and agricultural developments that took place early in this state's history. I think of the diverse groups of people who came to California in hopes of different things. I don't really know what people from other parts of the country think about California, but I've heard stereotypes such as "it's always sunny" and that Californians are hippies and surfers. If this is truly how some people view California, then their view is based on misconceptions, while my view is more of a knowledgeable one.
